THE JEWEL - Ditte Knus Tønnesen and Amalie Bønnelycke Lunøe

6 JUNE- 16 JUNE 2013

As part of the Copenhagen Photo Festival 2013 Kontor Project's is pleased to present a collaborative
exhibition by Ditte Knus Tønnesen and Amalie Bønnelycke Lunøe. The show will feature new wall-based,
sculptural and installation based work. This will be the first time that the two artists have exhibited together
in Denmark.

The exhibition is created in reference to the two images presented in the Copenhagen Photo Festival's catalogue
(Ditte Knus Tønnesen, Arises For Something Else, 75 x 75 cm, c-print, 2013 Amalie Bønnelycke Lunøe,
Untitled, 26 x 25 cm, c-print, 2013) by Knus Tønnesen and Lunøe. However these images are physically absent
from the show and therefore the presented work becomes a translation of the pictures' imprint alongside an
investigation of the photographic medium itself.

Both artists share a work process that involves the photographic image in the beginning stages of developing new work.
However in the process the photographic image becomes the catalyst instead of the actual work itself.
Few objects possess the rare quality to capture and pinpoint an emotional atmosphere or importance as
the photograph and it is this ability that inspires the creation of new work for both artists.

The title of the show The Jewel addresses the artists' interest in the precious, the beautiful, and the desired.
The artists see the jewel as being all of these, though it is up to the individual to define what the jewel may be
for him or her.By using materials including glass, nut wood, crystals and wallpaper Knus Tønnesen and Lunøe
have created carefully constructed visual works with surfaces that appear to differ very little, yet the difference
is doubtlessly there. Their work expands upon ideas of comparability and equality, which are underlined by the
materiality and colouring of the objects and thus creates a parallel interplay.

Ditte Knus Tønnesen (b. 1982) is a Danish artist who in her work investigates how individual understanding becomes
a unique way of communication and is fascinated by the idea that reality can often be seen as layers of understanding
from diverse cultures, languages, religions and political views. Knus Tønnesen's interest lies in the intersection that
occurs between different material's qualities, histories and contexts, which makes her work across materials such as
photography, drawing, objects and installations. She currently lives and works in Denmark, and has exhibited in Ireland,
Scotland, Mexico, Germany, Norway, Denmark and Iceland.

Amalie Bønnelycke Lunøe (b. 1981, DK) works with cross-disciplinary use of mixed media. Lunøe creates work from
an ongoing investigation and analysis of sociological and philosophical studies. Lunøe's interest lies in the understanding
of the structured environment that constantly surrounds and shapes our existence. Lunøe has exhibited in Scotland,
Denmark, England, Jamaica and Sweden. Lunøe currently lives and works in Copenhagen, Denmark.
